~ Trusting God's Timing ~

In the past 4-5 years our family has started and completed 2 adoptions.  When we began our adoption process with Carter we began the process fully knowing that it could take several years to complete.  So why is the waiting in adoption so hard?  Well... that can be answered in SO many ways.  Some couples have literally been waiting for years to start a family and the wait has been tremendously hard!   No matter what the reason may be that has led you to adoption- one thing is true.  The love for a child, either born or unborn, is growing in your heart. We dream, we ponder, we think deeply as to who our child will be.  Will they be a boy or a girl?  Will they have dark hair or light?  We dream- and we fall in love!

During pregnancy we know exactly when to expect our little love.  We check in on him/her every few months and we can plan accordingly.  During the adoption process you may have a timeline, but you don't really know when your child is coming!  We prayed and prayed for our child to come soon with each adoption.  As Christians, knowing God put us on the path to adoption, we trusted God's timing in the process.  We knew He was in control and could see the bigger picture.  Yet, we still found ourselves giving into impatience.  Having His word in our hearts really kept us grounded during this time and we were able to fully trust that God indeed knows what He is doing.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, Plans to prosper you
and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future"
Jeremiah 29:11

It is mind blowing to me God's timing in both of our adoptions.  On March 10th, 2011 My husband and I surrendered ourselves fully into the adoption process by attending a Foster/Adoption meeting. Exactly 9 months later our baby was born on December 9th. We were just so excited about fulfilling James 1:27 that we would jokingly say we will introduce him as Carter James 1:27.   But the amazing fact about that is on 1/27/2012 we found out we were matched with him. And just to keep it fun, God set up our travel date to get Carter as January 30, 2012 not even knowing about any future adoptions- our travel date for Eli would also be January 30, 2015. Coincidence? You decide -but I'm just going to give God the credit!

So today, on January 30th, I am looking back and remembering that God's hand was in every aspect of our process.  Even 4 years ago, when we had no idea we were going to adopt for a 2nd time, He aligned our dates.   God can see the whole picture.  Simply trust Him in whatever step you are in.  He may only give you enough light to see the step directly in front of you, but that's all you need.  He is writing an incredible story.

Can I help answer your questions about Adoption? OF COURSE! I would love to hear from you!    Email me
